AVDC has published the dates for refuse / waste collections over Christmas and the New Year holiday period. Here is the revised collection info:
Rubbish bins and food waste bins will be emptied on Saturday 28th December instead of Thursday 26th.
Blue lidded recycling bins and food bins will be emptied on Friday 3rd January.
Recycling at Christmas
There's a whole range of the extra things we use during the festive period that can now be recycled — Christmas cards and wrapping paper, paper plates and napkins, paper decorations, crackers and paper hats, card gift boxes and packaging. As long as it's not glittery or synthetic foil, it can all be put in household blue-lidded recycling bins.
All this extra recycling means that recycling bins may fill up quickly, so AVDC is asking residents to put out any excess recycling at Christmas in open clear carrier bags placed on top of, or next to, the recycling bin.
Residents are asked to put heavier things such as glass and newspapers or magazines in the recycling bin, and any excess bags for lighter things, such as plastics.
Residents using our Garden waste collection service can put wreaths or holly and mistletoe and real Christmas trees in their brown garden waste bin. Trees should be cut into small pieces and all decorations or wires removed first.
Alternatively, trees can be taken to household waste and recycling centres in Aston Clinton, Aylesbury and Buckingham.
Garden waste collection service
There are no garden waste collections in December and January — collections resume in February.
New customers to the scheme can now sign up for collections starting in February 2014, though payments won't be taken till February when the service resumes. Residents interested in the service can sign up online at aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/gardenwaste where they can also find out more about the service
Changes to service due to weather
In severe weather, information about any collection delays and cancellations will be available on our website homepage under 'News'. Resident's can sign up to our mobile apps available for Android and iPhones/iPads — just go to the marketplace or app store and type in 'AVDC bins'. We will endeavour to get notice of any changes to affected areas by email to the parish/town clerks as soon as we hear of them.
NB: The AVDC website remains the best source of information for the service. To visit that site now, click here
