Turn End Trust is delighted to announce that Landscape Architect Dominic Cole has become its newest Patron.

Turn End Trust was set up to promote the integration of building and garden design; enable public access to Turn End house and garden and other examples of post-war housing design; and to conserve and maintain Turn End, its gardens and associated buildings. The Trust helps inspire architects, landscape architects, garden design lovers and people who care about good design through its annual programme of events.

Dominic is a qualified Landscape Architect, Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute with some thirty years' experience. He is the designer of the Eden Project in Cornwall and was recognised for this through the Landscape Institute Peter Youngman Award 2006 and being granted Fellowship of the Institute of Horticulture. He was awarded an OBE for conservation in 2015 and the Royal Horticultural Society Vietch Memorial Medal in 2017.

Throughout his career Dominic has engaged with the specialist area of Historic Parks and Gardens and is well known in the profession. He is President of the Gardens Trust and was Chairman of the National Trust Gardens Advisory Panel 2008-2015. Dominic set up his own landscape architecture practice, DCLA, in February 2012.

Dominic was a founding Trustee of the Turn End Charitable Trust in 1998 and is currently one of Turn End's garden advisors. He says 'I am delighted to become a Patron of Turn End Trust. Turn End is special; a unique example of beautiful home scaled buildings set in an exquisite garden, both designed by Peter including his remarkable eye for planting.'

Peter Aldington, creator of Turn End and renowned for his ethos of linking building to landscape said it was wonderful to welcome Dominic Cole to the Trust and have his support. The Trust also has the support of existing Patrons, Lord Palumbo and Richard Murphy.

Dominic, who was on the Project Board for the Geoffrey Jellicoe Water Gardens in Hemel Hempstead that received funding from Heritage Lottery Fund in 2014 has teamed up with Karen Fitzsimon, a Trustee of Turn End, to host one of the 2019 events run by the Trust. It includes an architecture and landscape design tour to Jellicoe Water Gardens on 3 July 2019.

The Water Gardens are a significant example of post-war modernist landscape and are Grade II listed on the Register of Parks and Gardens. With expert guidance from garden historians and the landscape architects responsible for the restorations, partakers will be given special insight to the important features of the site and the restoration challenges.
