A long time ago (Sunday), in a galaxy far, far away (Banbury).
It is a period of darkness in the world of local Women's Cricket. Rival clubs fought to bring order to the galaxy by winning the Home Counties Super 8 Development Group Two. Sith Lords fought with non-developmental players to quash any rebellions. But a New Hope has appeared in the form of Haddenham Women's Cricket Team.
The Force is strong with this team. It flows through them and around them. It controls them but can also be controlled. Whilst they are still Padawans, opposition teams can sense something, none of them have sensed for a long time. And no matter how many teams ask us to join them to bring order we say emphatically 'No, we'll never join you".
Haddenham is now a team to be feared. Able to smash the ball to all four corners of the pitch, as evidenced by us scoring a team record of 44 runs in only our 3rd match ever played and a combined 70 runs on the day. And the team is not only effective with lightsaber in hand. We can bring some destruction ourselves as evidenced by us smashing the opposition's wickets to smithereens with the first delivery of our second match.
Tim Chowns (Coach and Jedi Master) told the team at the start of the day, "There is only do or not do, there is no try! And if we are struck down we will still become more powerful than the other teams can possibly imagine." Whilst the team did try, they also performed, as they always do, with courage, bravery and an ever increasing amount of skill. We might not have won, we certainly didn't lose, and while it might seem a long way off, the New Hope of Haddenham will soon bring balance to the Force and the rule of the Sith will be over.
Having fought bravely, the team enjoyed some excellent refreshments in the sunshine. Some excellent cider and roast dinner baps with a side of roast potatoes. There was a selection to choose from: Veggie, Beef and Turkey which were all excellent, although the team declined the Wookie baps as they looked a bit Chewie!
You gotta love this team.
