Clarifying Information on Reception Places at Haddenham St Mary’s School

We are aware that some information has recently been circulating within the community regarding Reception places at Haddenham St Mary’s CE School, and we would like to take this opportunity to clarify the position.

First and foremost, we want to reassure families that Haddenham St Mary’s has remained fully committed to supporting local children and responding positively to the needs of our community. Throughout our discussions with the Local Authority, we identified a clear shortage of places and acted proactively, putting forward practical and responsible solutions. This included adapting our provision and offering to accommodate a bulge year in order to support families in Haddenham.

There appears to have been some misunderstanding around the number of children the school was willing to admit. At no point did we state that we would only accept thirty pupils. On the contrary, we have consistently engaged constructively with the Local Authority to explore how an increased intake could be supported wherever possible.

We are also aware of suggestions that the school was requesting excessive levels of funding. We wish to be clear that this is not the case. All discussions regarding funding were firmly based on the frameworks and guidance provided, and reflected what would be necessary to safely and effectively accommodate additional pupils. Our approach has been reasonable, transparent and fully aligned with the expectations placed upon us.

We believe that some of the confusion may have arisen from earlier communications referencing specific figures, which may have led to differing interpretations. These figures did not represent a cap on admissions, nor did they reflect the school’s overall position.

For clarity, we were not made aware of any longer-term plans to extend Haddenham Infant School, as this had not been communicated to us by the Local Authority during this process. This context is important in understanding the basis on which decisions and proposals were made.

We are proud of the way our staff and governors have acted with integrity and in good faith throughout, always keeping the best interests of children and families at the centre of our work. Our priority has been, and remains, supporting our preschool children, their siblings, and the wider Haddenham community.

We hope this provides clear and helpful reassurance. As always, we value open and honest communication and are grateful for the continued support of our community.
