TOWNSEND GREEN UNDER THREAT – AGAIN!
Having failed twice to get permission for "Alteration and demolition of existing buildings, and erection of five detached dwellings with access, parking and amenity space", relating to 14 Townsend, Credo Oak Limited has made an appeal to the Secretary of State, trying to bypass all the local resident and council objections.
Their proposal would entail the destruction of part of the historic wychert building used in the past as a carpenter's shop and blacksmith's forge, and the construction of a new access road directly onto Townsend Green, to the detriment of the Village Green and Conservation Area, increasing traffic, and creating a danger to the many users of the green.
The Parish Council, the Heritage Buildings Officer, the Highways Authority and over 80 residents have all objected, but they can all be overridden by the Secretary of State.
Many people wrote to voice their objection to the second application last year, but it is not certain that these will be passed to the inspector judging the appeal. We are therefore asking all who care about protecting our Village Heritage against the greed of property developers to write to the inspector to voice your opposition, even if you have written a previous objection.
