The village's Cub pack will close at February half term unless new leaders come forward.

For well over 50 years, Haddenham has had a Cub pack – or, for a period of time, two packs. The current leaders have been running the pack for the last 10 years and they are now stepping down as volunteers.  Despite their strenuous efforts to find replacements, nobody has yet offered to help run the pack. Therefore, as things stand, the leaders expect to close the Cub pack at the February half term.

The leaders who are stepping back worked as a team and that has meant that the work load and responsibility – and the fun! – has been shared, and they have all found their involvement rewarding. The ideal arrangement would be for a new team to take over the running of the pack. Full support would be available and training is provided to any people willing to become leaders.

The Cub pack caters for young boys and girls aged 8-10½ and it is full with a waiting list. There is also a strong Beaver unit for younger children and a strong Scout unit to which Cubs progress.

It seems amazing that a village the size of Haddenham cannot produce any leaders to run the Cub pack, especially with the number of youngsters who are already Cubs – and Beavers and Scouts – and the length of the waiting lists for places. The activities are varied and fun – for the youngsters and the leaders!

Can you or your friends – or anyone you know – help the current Cubs and future youngsters enjoy scouting activities beyond February 2023 by saving the pack from closing?

If you would like to discuss what becoming a leader would mean, please contact Ben Sweetman, the Cub Leader, at haddenhamcubs1@gmail.com.
