Youth Football Club secures second trophy as teams gather to celebrate season
Haddenham Youth Football Club's U14 team has won the Oxfordshire Youth Football League (OYFL) Plate, beating Cold Ash 4-2 in the final at the NPower Loop Meadow Stadium, Didcot.
Meanwhile the U16 team narrowly lost out to Slough Town Juniors in the final of the Wycombe and South Bucks Minor Football League (WSBMFL) Cup which also took place on Sunday (27th April).
The two Cup Finals followed Club Presentation Day on Saturday at the Airfield Pavilion. Medals and trophies were awarded to players from U5s to U16s.
HYFC's Season Review was published on the day – please see document attached.
The Club has more than 450 registered players across 25 teams which is only possible through the commitment of over 70 volunteer coaches, team admins and committee members.
Season highlights include the development of PAN-Disability football, launching Chiltern Comets in partnership with fellow local clubs. Girls' football has expanded with the addition of a fifth team, supported by the Haddenham Beer Festivals Trust.
Haddenham's youth teams are still to take part in finals involving the U10 Girls, U12s and U13s. The U11s have already won the OYFL U11 League Cup Final while the U15 Blues lost out on penalties in the WBSMFL U15 Challenge Cup Final.
Haddenham Ladies has a new management team in place which will work more closely with HYFC's Girls' teams. Haddenham Veterans recently joined the family and has also reached the Cup Final of the Oxfordshire Veterans Over 40s League.
Alex Wagstaff, Club Chairman commented:
"Trophies are far from the only success criteria in grassroots football. When you read the reports in the Season Review, you'll hear common qualities echo throughout such as having fun, making friends, building resilience and belief in teamwork."
Alex added:
"Thank you to parents and carers who trust their children with us and to our sponsors and club partners who are investing in the development of youth football in Haddenham."
HYFC has set out ambitious plans to improve facilities, enhance coaching and create more special experiences.
The Club Chairman added:
"Our plans can only be achieved by securing additional funds and, we hope, active support from more parent/carer volunteers would be hugely appreciated." The Club is appealing to parents/carers and supporters to help double the surplus generated by the Festival of Football on the weekend of 30-31 August 2025.
Last week, HYFC announced former Everton, Rangers and England midfielder Trevor Steven as its new Club Patron.
