Christians from all the local churches gathered on Townsend Green, Haddenham on Good Friday, for a procession through the village. Their walk was as a public act of witness, concluding at the Parish Church of St Mary's, where an ecumenical service took place led by members of the Roman Catholic Church of the Good Shepherd.
The procession paused at various locations in the village, to mark the first few 'Stations of the Cross'. This devotion is a practice of prayer and reflection, by which Christians honour and remember the path of Jesus Christ on his way to Calvary.
Carrying the large and heavy wooden cross is also symbolic of the passion of Christ. This role was shared by various individuals during the procession, but the honour for the first stage of the walk fell to Leon Browne, ably supported by his young daughter Lily (pictured).
