Scarecrow Festival Begins!

The Scarecrow magic begins TODAY, Saturday 5th June 2021.

On behalf of the Haddenham Association of Scouts & Guides, we are very excited to open our 6th annual Scarecrow Festival and we've had another fantastic response with 97 entries from all over the village.

The 2020 "lockdown" Festival broke all records for obvious reasons, but our pre-pandemic average was 58 entries, so this year's support has been amazing – a fantastic array of Scarecrows in all shapes and sizes will be displayed in front gardens and in many other locations throughout Haddenham ..... and every year we see 'extras' appear during the Festival!

We are very grateful to everyone who has entered this year and we hope that people will really enjoy walking or cycling around the village to enjoy this special community event.

Trail Maps and List of entries

The Trail Map and List of Entrants is now available to download from this page (see PDFs). Due to the high numbers, the font size is small, but of course the advantage of viewing details on a phone or tablet is that you can enlarge it to any size you like!

For those who prefer a hard copy, limited numbers of quality A3 paper Trail Maps are available from the following venues:

Blooming Fruity
The Village Bakery
Bradmoor Farm
Florence Nightingale Charity Shop
Haddenham Garden Centre
and from outside 7 Dovecote HP17 8BP.

From Monday 7th June, maps will also be available from 70 Stanbridge Road HP17 8HN.

Fundraising

This year's Festival is being held in aid of the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity, with contributions being made by entrants and by visitors to the Trail. We are delighted to announce that we have already received pledges and donations totalling around £1,000. It is hoped that further funds will be raised during the Festival itself, so we are inviting voluntary donations for any amount of £1 upwards, please, in one of the following ways:

1. Online via the JustGiving page

2. By cash or cheque payable to Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity delivered to Francesca Flaxton at 7 Dovecote HP17 8BP.

3. By bank transfer to designated account at Lloyds Bank:
Sort Code: 30-98-56 A/C No:29225168 A/C Name: F Flaxton Ref: Scarecrow21

4. Some of the venues taking maps may also accept small cash donations. If not, please use one of the above donation methods, thank you.

Volunteers needed at Haddenham Scouting and Guiding units

In addition to providing a fun village activity and raising funds for different local charities each year, we hope the Festival also raises the profile of our local Scouting and Guiding groups and the vital need for more volunteers to help run our units for children in Haddenham.

To find out more about volunteering, please contact us in the first instance and we'll put you in touch with the right person.

"Scarecrow Festival Online"

We will be respectfully discouraging photos of Scarecrows appearing on local social media during the first week of the Festival please, to give people an opportunity to see the wonderful creations for themselves.

We are very keen to encourage residents and visitors to follow the Scarecrow Trail in person and hopefully to make a donation as part of our fundraising endeavours. However, in order to include everyone, we will make available a gallery containing photos of all the Scarecrows on this community website during the second week.

Vote for your 3 Favourites!

Once you have had an opportunity to view all the scarecrows outdoors or online, everyone can vote for their THREE favourites. Please vote by email scarecrowhaddenham.festival@gmail.com

or text 07554 141810 by midnight on Monday 21st June.

The three most popular displays will each receive a voucher for Afternoon Tea for Two, generously donated by Haddenham Garden Centre. ALL participants will receive a Certificate of Participation after the event.

Enjoy the Festival!
