A volunteer working party visited the Snakemoor Nature Reserve on Saturday 10th July to carry on the good work of maintaining this wonderful community resource.

Volunteer manager Julian Watson posted the following commentary:

"I'd like to express a very big thank you to all who worked so hard at Snakemoor on Saturday.

  • The working party did a great job reinforcing the paths, with all the chippings now used.
  • The Willow Tunnel is looking much better for trimming and weaving.
  • Obstructing branches, weeds and debris have been cleared.
  • Hazards at eye and head height have been removed.

Our next session will be in the early autumn. I will post a date a couple of weeks beforehand.

In the meantime, there are a number of activities that can continue on an ad hoc basis, such as:

  • Keeping the pond and stream clear
  • Hedging upkeep
  • Removing unwanted elder and sycamore

We have several significant items to progress later in the year:

  • Aquatic plants for the pond
  • Renewal and expansion of the bird boxes
  • Mowing and hay gathering on the meadow area"

Keep an eye on the Events section of this website for future dates – new volunteers are always very welcome.
