There has been a long-standing problem with roadside car parking on Sheerstock.
At the northern end of the estate, many homes do not have off-road parking and householders are therefore reliant on being able to park at the roadside near their homes. Unfortunately, during the daytime, Sheerstock can become frustratingly (and some would say dangerously) congested with additional vehicles, as their numbers are swelled by rail commuters who wish to avoid paying for car parking at the station.
The Parish Council has been conducting research among local residents to help identify and agree a permanent solution, but the process is taking much longer than many residents would like.
Unfortunately, there have recently been reports of cars being deliberately damaged at the roadside in Sheerstock.
Could it be that some residents have elected to take things into their own hands?
Let us hope not, as such vandalism can never be condoned, however frustrating the 'free parking facilities for commuters' must be to local householders.
More likely this is mindless vandalism perpetrated by persons unknown, with time on their hands and limited intellectual capacity to occupy themselves more constructively.
Notices are going up in Sheerstock in relation to this crime, and PCSO Sue Jones and her police colleagues will be paying particular attention to this area of the village over the coming days and weeks.
