As part of World Environment Week, McCormick's Power of Giving Team hosted a successful litter picking event on 4th June, starting outside their main entrance on Haddenham Business Park, working along Pegasus Way to the western end of Tibbs Road and around the Co-op store..

We were grateful to Jerry and Sue Michell for their participation and for making this event possible, and to our Superhero McC Volunteers who have really helped to improve our surroundings in support of World Environment Day, and also to Haddenham Parish Council who kindly supplied us with the tools required.

A total of nine determined volunteers closed their laptops, risked the possibility of rain and marched down to meet at the entrance gate to await their instructions. Many bottles, cans, crisp packets, sweet wrappers, vapes and cigarette boxes (to name a few!) were collected from not only the roadside and verges, but from undergrowth within ditches, deep within bushes and over, around fences – litter did not stand a chance, we were on a mission!!

Upon our return to base, we were surprised to have filled nine bin bags between us, having initially thought there was very little litter to be found!!

One volunteer said: "I found the event to be very therapeutic, it was nice to have a break away from my desk and to be close to nature, surrounded by butterflies, bees and even a dragonfly!! It gave me real sense of achievement knowing that I was making a difference and helping the environment".
