cider winner 2025

The annual Haddenham Cider Competition broke all records on Saturday night, 1st March, with 18 ciders being entered.

The standard was very high, and in top spot was Georgia Bullimore and Stephen Althorp with Appleocalypse (which was just as difficult to say as it is to spell). Whilst this was their first year in the competition, they must have benefitted from the guidance of Georgia's Dad Richard, who has entered the competition many times but come absolutely nowhere.

Pete the Pilot was second with Rectal Lightening, following by Jo with Hadden Uff. In last place this year was Pete the Pilot with his second entry Sphincter Growler which resembled methylated spirits.

But the biggest cheer of the night went to Michael Whitney, who made a significant improvement on last year, moving from last place right up to second last with Johnny Jack's Jollop! (There were only 10 entries last year, so he actually moved from 10th to 17th place – but we didn't tell him that)

Also worth mentioning was the winner of the Veteran's Trophy, Cricket Dave with his entry Fool's Gold which was 16th in the overall competition. Dave was rather surprised by his placing as someone told him his cider tasted like nectar; Unfortunately, the other 59 judges didn't agree.

It was a great night for all in attendance, and over £200 was raised for Baptist Home Mission. Thank you to the organisers as this event is hard work. And to Liam and Sylvie for running a brilliant pub for the village.
