On Saturday 3rd February, Haddenham Youth Theatre produced their annual programme, this year consisting of two plays: The Jungle Book and The Lost Girls.
The Junior group performed first, with six talented young actors presenting the beloved characters of Mowgli, Bagheera, Baloo, Kaa and Shere Khan with some new additions of a story-telling Peacock, Jolly Elephant and Gangly Gibbon!
This version of The Jungle Book was written by Hannah Austin especially for the group and co-directed by Hannah and 14 year old Molly McKain, who has been completing her DofE voluntary service with Haddenham Youth Theatre.
Many of the junior cast were making theatrical debuts, and they bought the story to life with colourful costumes and some acrobatics!
The second play of the day, 'The Lost Girls' again written by Hannah, was based on William Golding's classic novel; The Lord of the Flies. Updated for an all-female cast, Haddenham Youth Theatre's senior group tackled the dramatic story with enthusiasm and skill. The dark jungle set provided the backdrop for the cast of 12 to move from stranded schoolgirls to sinister savages.
There were some stand-out moments; the hunt of the first pig, the mutiny of the hunters and the dramatic deaths of two of the main characters, the budding actors kept us audience on our toes throughout!
It's evident how much hard-work goes into presenting two plays twice, both a matinee and an evening performance, both casts and all the team behind the scenes accomplished a very impressive production."

Haddenham Youth Theatre is grateful for all the volunteers who work hard to give the young people of the village a stage to shine on and is especially grateful for the help of Haddenham art group 'More Than Brushes', who provided the iconic props of the Pigs Head and the Conch!
Haddenham Youth Theatre is for young people aged 8 — 18 and runs on Monday nights in the community centre.
