Haddenham Horticultural Society's Annual Open Show will take place on Saturday 5th September in the Village Hall. Public Viewing is 2.00pm – 4.00pm, followed by presentation of trophies and raffle draw.

Admission: 50p senior citizens and children; £1.00p others

The Show offers a wide range of classes for vegetables, fruit, flowers, cacti and succulents, floral art, domestic (preserves, baking and bread), beer and wine, art, crafts and photography, plus children's classes.

There is also a raffle, tombola, plant sale and refreshments, as well as displays by other village organisations.

Non-members are very welcome to compete – there are classes to suit everyone, including a range of special classes for children of different age groups.

Entries close at 8.00pm on Wednesday 2nd September (entry fees per class: 10p members, 20p non-members, all children's classes free).

Staging of exhibits is from 7.00pm – 9.00pm on Friday 4th and 8.00am – 9.50 am on Saturday 5th September.

This year the Floral Art classes are themed on song titles (see page 29) and as always organisers hope that these will prove to be a source of inspiration and encourage a few more entries.

Officers of the Horticulture Society are also repeating the special novice class introduced last year for those who have never won a first prize for floral art. The special art class (175) for this year is entitled "Let's Go Green", and the fairy cakes (class 122) are to be decorated "to reflect 100 years of the WI".

There are also the more routine changes, and this year's "unusual ingredient" baked item is a Chocolate Cola Cake. The cooking times for some of the set recipes have been revised to reflect the greater efficiency of modern ovens.

Finally, as a result of comments received, organisers have replaced the class for pansies/violas in the Annual Show by one for annual or perennial sweet peas.

Pick up a Yearbook including the Schedule for all the Show classes from the Library, Blooming Fruity, Browns, The Egg House Butchery formerly 'Parminters' or the Garden Centre in Haddenham, or from Bizzie Lizzie in Thame or Penn's Nursery in Longwick
