Haddenham Ladies Play Host to Brentford

Haddenham Youth FC's links with Championship side Brentford FC allowed Haddenham Ladies to host Brentford Ladies on Sunday 19th August at Cuddington Playing Fields. The visitors bought a strong squad along from West London, many of the ladies playing for first team positions for when their season starts on Sunday 2nd September.

From kick off Brentford Ladies soon realised that the team from the beautiful village of Haddenham was not going to be such a push-over and the game was very even. The Haddenham goalie made some easy saves from a couple of half chances from the Bees, but Haddenham were equally testing the Brentford defence and their goalkeeper.

Unfortunately, the post denied Haddenham from taking the lead. But with only a few first half minutes left on the clock a through ball left the Haddenham defence open. The Bees striker, one on one against the goalkeeper, was never going to miss...no matter how much the HYFC Chairman prayed for a wild shot!!

Two minutes in to the second half and the Bees extended their lead to two goals, but that was it. Where heads would usually drop the Haddenham defence stayed solid and along with some fine goalkeeping and the post, Brentford were denied any more goals.

Haddenham had some good spells and played some good football until the final whistle, managing to scare the Bees defence a few times themselves, right to the end, even though they were clearly very tired in the heat.

The Chairman was overjoyed with the Haddenham performance saying, "The girls were fantastic today. They did themselves and the club proud, thank you all".

Haddenham Ladies train on Thursday evenings from 7.00pm at the playing fields at Woodways, Haddenham. New players are always welcome.

HYFC have also struck a deal with Reading Ladies from the Women's Super League to help with the growth of the female game in Haddenham. Reading Ladies FC will supply coaching sessions in Haddenham for the girls and elite training sessions at their own training ground.

Free match tickets will be readily available at Adams Park, Wycombe — Reading Ladies home ground. Here the girls will have the opportunity to lead the players onto the pitch.
