The Witchert Chorale, under the musical directorship of David Quinn, presented another of their very popular pre-Christmas concerts in St Mary’s Church on Saturday evening, 29th November.
Co-hosted by the Village Society, an enthusiastic audience of approximately 150 people were able to enjoy a delightful repertoire under the theme of ‘Choral Music To Bring You Home’
Music included Tippett’s sonorous and powerful Five Spirituals, with local guest soloists Teresa Richards, Julia Ridout, Simon Shaw and Richard Coulson, and also settings of Psalm 84 by Brahms and Saint Saëns, and arrangements of well-known folk songs.”- The final piece was called “Home Sweet Home” and the lyrics were written by John Howard Payne and the music by Howard R Bishop.
The accompanist was Richard Smith, organist of Stone parish church.
Committee members and friends of the Village Society served wine and nibbles during the interval, and funds raised from the event are to be divided across three charities, namely Myeloma UK (in memory of Kirsten Shaw), Friends of St Mary’s Church (fabric fund) and the Village Society.
The Witchert Chorale offered us another splendid evening of entertainment, showcasing the fine musical talents of its members. We look forward to further concerts of such musical quality in the coming months.
