Haddenham Women Enter The Lions Den

The winning juggernaut that is Haddenham Womens Hardball Team rolled into Chalfont St Peter on Sunday with revenge on their minds following a surprise loss to Chalfont on 12th July.

Looking smoother than a pride of greased lionesses, Haddenham took to the field to bowl first, and bowl they did – very well.  It was superstar Hattie who made the first breakthrough, roaring in from the pavilion end and sending their opening batters middle stump cartwheeling out of the ground. 

A quite brilliant start, and even though the next pair put on 117, Haddenham never gave up and hunting as a pack they finally caught up the impala's of Chalfont and tour into their line up with wickets from Sam, Clare F, Hattie again and the amazing Olivia, finally restricting Chalfont to just 169.  Caught and bowleds by Sam and Olivia were highlights, along with Sam's fielding, Laura B's always brilliant wicket keeping, and Laura D and Tracey stepping up to bowl when the team really needed them.

Haddenham then came in to bat intent on proving they a Kings (or Queens I guess) of the jungle.  It was tough going against the league's number one attack but Laura B and Hattie demonstrated how to survive in the wild as they both hit double figures. 

Haddenham were still looking straight down both barrels at 57-7, but as always with this team, somebody steps up and this week it was a tough cookie by the name of Olivia who, ably supporting by Cate, smashed 23 off 29, which meant Chalfont ran for cover in the nearest patch of trees. (This analogy is falling over a bit I know) Haddenham finished on 106 all out. Not enough, but over a ton was pure class.

Unfortunately, it was a loss for Haddenham but in Olivia and Hattie, Haddenham had two brilliant young players who complimented the grace and culture of our more experienced players beautifully. We must also thank Cate (batting), Tracy (bowling) and Lena (batting) who joined the team at short notice and contributed valuable runs, accurate overs and lots of energy in the field.

Haddenham now have a well earned break until 9 August when they take on Horspath CC with a chance to return to a top three league position. Plenty of time to lick their wounds, sharpen their claws, and practice hitting the ball for four- straight bat or no straight bat!
