The winning juggernaut which is Haddenham Women's Cricket Team rumbled into Stewkley looking to cement its reputation as THE dominant women's development team in the area.

In front of a huge crowd, Haddenham started well by restricting Stewkley to 272-5. In what was their best bowling performance of the season we saw wickets by Claire F (2), Lucie, Rachel R and Emma. Champagne moments being a stunning catch by wicketkeeper Gemma and Gayathri, who bowled with pace and aggression.

The win was on, but as with most sports, teams raise their game when faced with illustrious opposition and we saw that in Stewkley's fielding and bowling, which was excellent. Wickets at key times reduced the runfest the Haddenham fans were expecting and despite a host of boundaries from Claire F (4), Gemma, Lucie, Emma and Claire B the team came up slightly short at 265-7. The team battled to the end and the result was in the balance until the final over, thanks to some great play from Rachel S.

Defeat can cast a shadow but this team, just like Cliff Richard, they will step out of shadows as they look forward to another huge game at Westcott CC on Thursday. Come along if you like fireworks!

(If you don't understand the above, please talk to a grandparent because it is well funny)
