Success Again for the Haddenham Women's Cricket Team
This team used to play like a mis-firing Trabant in need of a service, but on Sunday 24 May they roared into Chorleywood to play Chenies and Lattimore CC like a Jaguar E-Type that had been filled up with expensive petrol – not the regular stuff. It was a case of out with the 2 stroke-engines and 26 horsepower and in with a sleek accurate bowling unit, 300hp batting and a top speed of well over 100mph in the field. Out with poor construction and poor reliability and in with skill, determination and power. Lots of power. You get the picture.
The numbers speak for themselves. Haddenham 160 for 2. 160!!!! The records tumbled. Most runs. Highest ever individual score. Highest number of runs in one over. 6 Players with a strike rate of over 100 and 20 boundaries. Everyone should be really proud of themselves. What a performance.
The bowling wasn't bad either, restricting the opposition to just 97. Chenies worked hard and did pretty well, but this Haddenham team knows how to win, and win they did, convincingly. If this was the Le Mans 24 Hour Race, the Jaguars of Haddenham would have been miles in front.
So it's onwards and upwards for this amazing team. It doesn't matter if its Tundra like conditions in Haddenham or the sweltering heat of Chorleywood. All this team has to do is turn the key in the ignition, put the aircon to max and slam its foot to the floor and the runs start to fly.
This is a great team to be part of, so even if you've never picked up a bat before you should give it a go – see our website for details. In the words of Chief Mechanic Tim Chowns, "Whether we win, lose or draw, we play as a team, we support each other and we laugh a lot. It's great fun, although it is more fun if we win."
