If you delight in our local countryside and enjoy a rural stroll, you will be interested to know about the Wychert Way.
This recently devised 12 mile way-marked route around Haddenham has several links leading from Haddenham to join it. A team of volunteers is currently carrying out work to reduce the number of stiles and thus make the route accessible to more people.
The Haddenham Safe Walking and Cycling Group (HaddSWAC), on behalf of the Haddenham Parish Council and the Village Society, have obtained a £10,000 grant from Buckinghamshire County Council Local Area Forum for the replacement of stiles by in-line or kissing gates on footpaths leading from Haddenham to adjacent villages.
By the end of March 2014 we should see stile free walks from Haddenham to Cuddington, Haddenham to Chearsley (three stiles are likely to remain on this route due to the reluctance of the land owner to allow the installation of gates) and Haddenham to Dinton. On the Dinton route we hope to install gates that are suitable for mobility access for those with buggies and more robust mobility vehicles.
The routes are marked by green roundels (for the Wychert Way itself) and Orange roundels (for the Wychert Way links). All the signage has been funded by the Haddenham Beer Festivals Trust and perhaps therefore it is not a coincidence that the stile free routes will link Haddenham with the Bell at Chearsley, The Crown at Cuddington, the Seven Stars at Dinton and, if funds allow, the Bottle and Glass at Gibraltar.
