Carrie Community Vehicle

Carrie's 8th birthday

The committee managing Carrie, the Haddenham Community Vehicle, met this month at the time of the eighth anniversary of the service, to review progress. Activity is on the increase. It was reported that so far this year 176 lifts have been provided to 34 local clients.

The vehicle was rebranded last year with new logos and supporting literature from Purple Frog marketing consultancy. Operating support is provided from Ivor Miles' garage.

Now, the committee has developed and launched a comprehensive new website which is helping to attract more clients from Haddenham and the surrounding villages. The new site explains the origins of the scheme and includes key information on the scope of the service and the booking arrangements.

It was always intended that by providing transport for those unable to use public services or conventional cars, the vehicle would help deal with social isolation in the community. As well as covering medical appointments at all the local hospitals, we are pleased to meet social needs through visits to friends, family, day centres or to, say, garden centres.

The charity owns and runs Carrie as a service for our community. All the trained drivers are volunteers. The service is provided free of charge, although, as a charity, donations are always welcome.

Chairman, Peter Quilleash says: "We are delighted that our activity continues to grow. Over the last eight years we have helped around 150 people and we will always be grateful to our wonderful volunteers who are making this possible."

If you would like to join our team as a volunteer driver, please get in touch.
