Eco -Refurbishment at its best
The so-called 'Green agenda' is about reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions — the latter is known as 'decarbonisation'. New technologies and building materials are helping to reduce the environmental impact of modern, newly-built homes. The greatest challenge in the domestic environment relates to making improvements to existing (i.e., older stock) homes.
Support Aylesbury Vale's Environment (SAVE) is looking to celebrate important gains in terms of decarbonisation, and invites you to visit North Bucks' first and recently assessed 'SuperHomes'.
'SuperHomes' are older properties that have been refurbished by their owners for greater comfort, reduced energy costs and fewer carbon emissions — at least 60% less. In short, these homes represent eco-refurbishment to a high standard.
Opening their doors in the Vale of Aylesbury during September, are two 'SuperHomes':
1. Thornborough (Nr Buckingham) on Thursday, 6th and Saturday 8th September
2. Aylesbury, Elm Farm Estate on Saturday 22nd and 29th September

Visitors can expect to come away with plenty of ideas for greening their own properties, including home improvements likely to be eligible for planned Green Deal finance.
Most 'SuperHomes' have covered the basics, with superior insulation and draft proofing, and many have alternative heating sources; some produce their own energy.
Rural and urban/attached-detached/Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian and Post-war properties are amongst those open to the public at various locations in September.
To find out more or to pre-book a place on a tour, please visit the SuperHomes website or contact SAVE Secretary, Robert Smart during working hours on 01296 585147 or by email rsmart@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
