Haddenham Village Society is hosting a Spring Walk on Wednesday 10th May, on this occasion visiting Cholesbury in the Chiltern Hills.
Programme:
A guided walk, we will visit an Iron Age "Hill Fort" (how does it have a perpetually full pond?), Grim's Ditch ( what is it?), a church yard with a grave to a sailor who was at the Battle of Trafalgar, hear about poverty in the poorest village in England, follow a drover's route and see a windmill featured in a painting in the Ashmolean Museum (who was the dog?).
Optional Lunch at The Full Moon Pub on Cholesbury Common. Orders taken on our arrival at 1000 hrs.
Distance:. 4 miles of easy, relatively flat and stile free walking.
Timings: We will meet at The Full Moon Pub (postcode HP5 2UH; what3words: ///bronzes.graver.blackbird) at 10:00 hrs for a 10:20 hrs departure. Please park opposite the pub in a lay-by to leave room for other customers. There are loos and a quick coffee is possible.
Transport: Due to difficulties in getting a minibus in term time, we will make our own way there. Allow 35+ minutes from Haddenham. Please consider car sharing. Those car sharing will leave from the Village Hall Car Park at 0915 hrs.
Dogs children and friends are very welcome.
Boots or walking shoes and wet weather clothes are recommended.
