On Sunday 4th February, two local football teams got together to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, the famous children's hospital.
The stage was set for keen rivalry between Haddenham Vets, managed by Gary McCarron and FC Sporting Aid under the guidance of Leigh Shaw.
Before the game started, the players conducted a one-minute round of applause in honour of Rory Thompson, young son of Haddenham residents Gary and Rhi Thompson, who spent a lot of his very short life in Great Ormond Street Hospital before his tragic death in November 2021 aged just 14 months.
To help raise funds, players 'paid to play'. There was also financial support from local organisations and companies.
The final score saw FC Sporting Aid win 2:1 "but that wasn't the point" (to quote Gary!)
The event raised the impressive sum of £1,650
Sincere congratulations to all invoved.
After the game, Leigh Shaw had this to say:
"We would like to give thanks to the amazing contributions from the following people that have made this fundraising game possible, with all proceeds going to GOSH.
Finally, the haddenham community for their continued support.
Thank you everyone from the haddenham veterans, FC Sporting Aid and The Great Ormond Street Hospital.
If others would like to add to our fundraising efforts, here's the JustGiving page "
