The Community Orchard at Townsend Green has been undergoing some improvements recently to help wheelchair users and those with limited mobility access to the orchard and participate in events.
The improvement work includes a new 'accessible gate', hard surface paths and raised beds that can be maintained by wheelchair users.
The orchard improvement work is part of an approach to active aging developed in conjunction with the local residential care home, Abbeyfields. The accessibility improvement is funded by Haddenham Parish Council and the raised beds are funded by JMW Vicary Ltd, the Haddenham Pharmacist.
There will be a formal 'Re-opening' event attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire on Saturday 9th July.
The schedule is as follows:
10.30am — Jubilee Plum Planted by the Orchard Committee
11am — Arrival of Lord Lieutenant and introductions
11.10 — Formal opening of the orchard improvements
11.20 — refreshments at 'the core' open air classroom
11.30am — walk through the orchard led by Diccon Proctor
11.45am informal conversation and close of event
The event will provide an opportunity to consider how community resources can support active aging programmes and skill exchanges that can help senior members of our community to become actively engaged in a broader range of activities.
All welcome.
