As you will be only too aware, the current lockdown has meant that we had to cancel the Horticultural Society Spring Show and Plant Sale scheduled for Saturday (25th April).
It has been suggested that members and others (particularly those who would have planned to take part in the Show, but also more generally) may wish to put out some sort of a special display (e.g. a flower arrangement or flowering plants, etc.) in their front windows, driveways or whatever, perhaps with a sign along the lines of "Welcome to Spring from Haddenham Horticultural Society" for the benefit of people taking their outdoor exercise.
I am of course aware that many people have already put out some decorations to cheer others up, but we thought some sort of specific welcome to Spring might add to these.
We are also looking at the possibility of arranging some kind of a plant exchange or somewhere for people to leave any surplus seedlings, cuttings, etc. for collection by those who may be able to make use of them — details to follow if we go ahead with this.
Home Delivery for Gardeners
As you probably know, although Haddenham Garden Centre is closed, a number of other outlets are offering a delivery service for a range of plants, composts and other sundries, for example:
Penn's Nursery: please order online www.pennsflowers.co.uk(and see there for the range of stock available) or telephone the shop on 01844 347952; delivery charge £4.50.
Waterperry Gardens: the shop manager, Mike, will be in the garden shop to take orders for local deliveries on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. You can use the website shop as on online catalogue, and ring them to place your order and pay (01844 339226) or email email@example.com with your phone number so Mike can call you back for payment. I don't know about delivery charges as it doesn't mention them on the site and being Wednesday Mike isn't there!
Hartwell Nurseries: call 01296 747961 for details of what they can deliver and where. Again the website doesn't mention delivery charges, although I have been told they need a minimum order of £50, but if interested do check it out with them.
