The Scout Association and Girlguiding UK provide adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for around one million young people aged 6 – 25 in the UK

About Scouting
Personal development means promoting the physical, intellectual, social and spiritual well-being of the individual, helping them achieve their full potential. In Scouting, we believe that young people develop most when they are 'learning by doing,' when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves.

The Scout Association age groups are:

Beaver Scouts: 6 – 8
Cub Scouts: 8 – 10.5
Scouts: 10.5 – 14
Explorer Scouts: 14 – 18
Scout Network: 18 – 25

Scouting in Haddenham

Haddenham has a great tradition where scouting is concerned. A beaver colony and a cub pack meet weekly at the Scout & Guide Centre, Banks Park.

There are waiting lists for beavers and cubs. If you would like to put your child's name on a waiting list please contact Julie Fell, the Beaver Leader, on 01844 290166 or Richard Lay, the Cub Leader, on 01844 212374.

Unfortunately the scout troop is not running at present, but hopefully it will be possible to restart in the near future. We have a leader, but he cannot run the weekly term-time troop evenings and other activities on his own. He requires help to do so. If you might be able to help, please contact Andy Woodruff, the District Commissioner, on 01844-346378 or at thewoodies.12@btinternet.com.

About Guiding
Girlguiding UK is the United Kingdom's largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women, with around half a million members including about 100,000 trained volunteer adult Leaders and supporters. 'Girlguiding UK' is an operating name of The Guide Association.

Below are the age groups for Guide Association groups:

Rainbows 5 – 7
Brownies 7 – 10
Guides 11 – 14
Rangers and Young Leaders 14 – 18

Guiding is for girls of all backgrounds, abilities and nationalities. Girls lead the way in guiding, so the activities are what they want to do. We all need some space without boys around sometimes! With Girlguiding UK girls can just be themselves – making friends, learning new skills and having fun.

There are many volunteer roles in guiding. Many volunteers give their time as Leaders or Assistant Leaders for guiding units and get to see girls enjoying events and activities that they have organised.

Guiding in Haddenham
Guiding continues to grow in Haddenham and we have a Rainbow unit, 3 Brownie units and a Guide unit, which all meet in different places around the village. All the units have a waiting list and if you would like to put your child's name on a waiting list for any of the units then please contact Diane Austin on 01844 292046.

We welcome offers of help with open arms for all our units but in particular we are looking for a Rainbow Leader to take over the current Rainbow unit. If you are interested and would like to know more then please contact Diane Austin on the number above.
