What  A Season. What A Team!

As the sun set over High Wycombe Cricket Club, so came to an end one of the most remarkable sporting achievements of recent memory.

Haddenham Women's Cricket Team played their final league game of 2026 against, illustrious and very experienced opposition and although it wasn't their best performance these battle weary pioneers still scored over 100 and it shows hope much the expectation has grown that this was a bit of a disappointment.

High Wycombe might have scored 182 but that was only achieved by some fairly despicable gamesmanship, designed to disrupt our scintillating bowler's rhythm. The last time these teams played Haddenham bowled High Wycombe out for 52 so you can't blame them for being worried.

There were still some highlights for Haddenham.  On the bowling side of things, Gayathri scaring people to death as she steamed in at 100mph, Bels going past the outside edge with virtually every delivery and Emma's guile and craft making her deliveries impossible to play. Batting wise, Vickie smashed 21 off 29 to get us going, Karen finally showed us that she can bat with a season high 15 and if only we'd got Sam in to bat earlier the story might have been different. Laura B proved again that she is brilliant behind the stumps. As always, the fielding was exemplary, and the prize for the best bruises (plural) went to Claire B.

So there we have it. The team completed their inaugural league campaign with a record of Played 10, Won 4 Lost 6. The team knows it should have beaten Dinton – twice. It shouldn't lose to High Wycombe if the big guns fire.  Chalfont were the better team but if I have anything to do with it, we will smash Horspath out of the park every single time we play them. Every single time – I mean it!

End of season awards were presented to:

  • Clare F – Best bowler with 14 terrific wickets.
  • Rach – Best Batter and highest innings in the whole of Haddenham CC (119)
  • Laura B – Coach's Player, easily the best Wicket Keeper in the league.
  • We have some great Junior players in Hattie, Neve and Gayathri who have all played extremely well.  Gayathri deserves a special mention with 8 wickets.

The coach, who can be a grumpy old sod at times, could not be prouder of this team and what it has achieved.

So we look forward to the 2027 season. Who dares to dream how far we can take this!!!!!!
