Since its inception in 1965, the Village Society has always maintained a watching brief over planning applications in Haddenham and has sought to offer comments to the relevant planning authorities whenever intended developments have raised specific concerns.

Some anxieties have recently been communicated to the Village Society by a number of residents living in the  area of Church End and Flint Street in relation to physical changes being made to the cottage at 9 Church End (at the North-East corner of Flint Street). It has been suggested that these changes contravene the planning constraints that apply to properties in the conservation area.

HVS understands that, following receipt of an enforcement order for the removal of the large, windowed outbuilding in the garden of No 9  (by the 11th July ) the owner has made an appeal and at the same time submitted two planning applications, as detailed below:

PL/26/03899/FA | Erection of wattle/willow hurdle fence

The proposal is to erect a wattle/willow hurdle fence atop the existing stone wall forming the elevated southern boundary of the garden, adjacent to Flint Street for a length of approx. 30 metres .

The total height of the combined wall and fence above the road surface would therefore rise from approx. 3.1m (over 10ft) at the eastern edge and 4m (13ft) at the western end .

PL/26/03900/FA | Erection of wattle/willow hurdle fence and outbuilding

This application includes the same fence as PL/03899/FA. and for the outbuilding to be moved to a position adjoining the boundary with 6A Church End and close to the small garden of 7 Church End

Local residents have pointed out that the yellow planning notices have been displayed in a potentially misleading position, at the front of the drive to Manor Farm.

However, they relate specifically to 9 Church End whose garden runs down the side of Flint Street (see diagram – click on the image to see an enlarged view).

Anyone wishing to comment about the proposed fence will need to do so on both applications, in order for these to be taken into account .

The deadline for public comments is less than clear, but appears to be Wednesday 24th June 2026
