trustees needed

Haddenham Community Library needs more people from the local community to volunteer to become trustee/directors.

Your library is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, run by a Board of Trustees/Directors, who are responsible for the management, well-being, and effectiveness of the library.

Besides thinking about its services and facilities, its trustees/directors must ensure the library looks after its assets, meets its financial obligations and functions within the legal framework of a charity.

Due to retirements and to ensure it is representative of the local community the Board is looking for imaginative people who would like to use their education, training, natural proficiency, professional and life experience to help us succeed and grow our library services.

You will be joining a group of local people from all walks of life who give their time and energies freely to ensure that the library remains at the centre of the community.

All trustees engage in a constructive and collaborative manner with all the challenges affecting the library and function as its advocate in the wider world.

We have been providing a library service in the centre of Haddenham for the past 10 years, working in partnership with Buckinghamshire Council since 2012.

However, we provide far more than a traditional a public library and information service. We are proud that we offer inclusive and accessible services to all members of the local community and a safe comfortable space for connecting and learning – cool in the summer and warm in the winter, staffed by a pool of enthusiastic local volunteers supervised by a paid manager.

The community in Haddenham is changing rapidly, and the Board is determined to offer better targeted services to meet the needs of our dynamic community.

We have plans to do this by supporting the welfare and progress of local residents. We will achieve this through increasing our participation in cultural, educational and entertainment activities so we ensure we stay relevant to all sections of the community.

We aim to grow our income through innovative means but we need increased levels of sponsorship and donations so we can fund development and sustain the future of this well used and valuable community asset.

As a trustee your time commitment would include attending the monthly Library Trustee /Director Board meetings, plus occasional meetings with other organisations and agencies and regular participation in working groups. You can expect to receive support and advice to assist you with your role and a very warm welcome from your fellow Board members.
