If you suffer with a common mental health issue Haddenham library could be a great source of information and support this summer.
Libraries across Buckinghamshire have launched "Reading Well for Mental Health" — and are now stocked with a specially selected reading list including titles by Matt Haig, Sathnam Sanghera and Ruby Wax.
The 37 books chosen for "Reading Well for Mental Health" provide practical information and support and have been selected by health professionals and by people with common mental health issues who've found them helpful.
The booklist provides help with dealing with difficult feelings and experiences including bereavement and anger and support for specific conditions including depression, anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), as well as personal stories and memoirs.
The specially chosen books are penned by bestselling and highly-regarded authors including Matt Haig (How to Stay Alive); Cathy Rentzenbrink (A Manual for Heartache); Sathnam Sanghera (The Boy with the Topknot); Ruby Wax (A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled) and many more.
Noel Brown, Buckinghamshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Communities and Public Health said:
"Every book on this list is a great read, whether it's about self-help and practical advice or an insightful story that covers this topic. It's well worth anyone taking a look at the reading list — whether or not you're directly impacted by difficult feelings or a common mental health condition. All of our local libraries have these books available and you can also browse the list online.
"We have wonderful libraries here in Buckinghamshire, all of which are great community hubs. If you're not a regular library user why not go along to your local library and see what's on. It's a great way to take part in something new or to use the wealth of reading resources, both of which have a positive impact on general health and well-being."
